Coffee grounds make great mulch because they are acidic with a pH of between 3.0 and 5.0 which makes them wonderful for mulching rhododendrons, azalea and other acid loving plants. Like fertilizer, it is flushed with nitrogen and is 100% organic. It contains approximately .05% caffeine which means that coffee grounds and fresh coffee will not kill slugs but may act as a mild deterrent.
