They say the best things in life are found off the beaten path. Well, for our 50th Anniversary Franchisee Convention, we didn’t just go off the path—we went straight up a mountain, around a dozen hairpin turns, and occasionally hovered over the edge of a cliff.
To celebrate five decades of Coffee Beanery, we took a group of our daring franchisees to the legendary Blue Mountains of Jamaica. It was a journey filled with breathtaking views, "hold your breath" bus maneuvers, and the kind of coffee experience that reminds you why we do what we do.

The Road to Cascade
If you’ve never been on a bus traversing the Jamaican Blue Mountains, imagine a rollercoaster designed by a mountain goat. The trek to the town of Cascade was... athletic.
Our franchisees are a tough bunch, but there’s nothing quite like the collective gasp of twenty people as a bus navigates a road narrower than a latte stir-stick. However, every white-knuckled moment was worth it the second we saw the mist rolling over the peaks. It’s one thing to talk about the premium taste of "high-altitude beans"; it’s another to see exactly how high those beans actually live.

Old School is the Best School: James Dennis Coffee House
Once our heart rates returned to normal, we arrived at the James Dennis Coffee House. If you’re looking for high-tech roasting machines and digital touchscreens, you’re in the wrong place. This is where coffee history stays alive.
We had the pleasure of meeting Oraine and Ras Hopeton, whose great-uncle founded this local institution. The James Dennis Coffee House is a masterclass in the "old school" way:
-
The Roast: Forget industrial drums. Here, the beans are roasted in a small iron skillet over an open flame. It’s a rhythmic, sensory process that smells like heaven and looks like magic.

-
The Grind: No electric burr grinders here. The coffee is ground by hand, requiring a level of elbow grease that puts our morning gym sessions to shame.
-
The Taste: There is something incredibly humbling about drinking a cup of coffee that was grown, picked, roasted, and ground right in front of you by the same family that has been doing it for generations.

Bringing the Spirit Home
Standing in Cascade, surrounded by the people who help make Coffee Beanery what it is, we felt a profound connection to the roots of our industry. We’ve grown a lot in 50 years, but the heart of a great cup of coffee remains the same: passion, heritage, and a little bit of grit.
We returned from Jamaica with a few more gray hairs (thanks again to our bus driver, Wayne!), but more importantly, we came back inspired. We’ve seen the peaks, we’ve met the makers, and we’re ready for the next 50 years of brewing excellence.
Want to taste the magic for yourself? While we can't ship you a Jamaican mountain view, we can ship our 100% Authentic Jamaican Blue Mountain Beans to you today!
